10 Must Bring Items on My Trips

Dear strangers,

What are the 10 essential things you have to bring on your trips? For me I can list it down less than 10. I am pretty sure about it.

1. Camera
Holidays are not legit without pictures. Either picture of the vehicle on the street or random people passed by in front, whatever you snaps as long it is a prove you are on holidays! My Canon 40D is my best friend to seize the moment! It has been travelling with me through out UK to Paris, invaded Perth, Chiang Mai and going with me to more places!

2. Iphone 4S
Who said I can't live without my Iphone. Yes I can but it is a must for me to bring it everywhere as I see it more practical and saving my time to find destinations or any other informations needed during my trips. It is all in one. Phone, mini computer, Ipod and camera. I can easily find anything I want here!

3. Cloths
It always fun to plan what are you going to wear on the trips. I hate bring too many cloths so I always try to mix and match my cloths. It depends where am I heading. If I am going to tropical country with sun I'd prefer to bring shorts, more tops and few dresses. I always prepare for any occasion that I might attend and dress is always the best! I hate wearing jeans it is hot and make you feel sticky! but for those autumn/winter season I wont mind to wear jeans. Two pairs of jeans, boots and lot of tops for layering are the best way to look stylist on cold season. If you dont want to get arrested by fashion police please don't wear thermal underwear. It won't keep you warm it make you look so outdated.

4. Slippers
Whenever I go my slippers will always be with me! I can't live without it. Most of my holidays are in tropical country, slippers are the best for all the places. I can go to beaches, hang out in malls or if there is flood in the city. I am prepared!

5. Girl's stuff
Girls usually have a lot of things to pack in their make up pouch but for me it is not much. My Dior skin care, a blusher, a lipstick, mascara n eyeliner is a must items to bring whether I am going to use it or not.

6. Moleskin/journal
Planning trips and write down all the infos about the restaurants/ places to go are one of my faves thing to do. I always make the list on my journal and fill it with the story along the trips. I always dream to be a writer who knows one day I can publish my books about my journey around the world.

7. Books
Caught in the middle of boredomeness or sitting next to a boring strangers that keep talking about their dogs, daughters or stupid things that is not in your area interest? Book is one of best weapon to safe you from those situation. Like to read or not just open the book and flip the pages.

8. Earphone
If the person next to you still continue blabbering or didnt get your hit. This is the ultimate weapon! Plug it to your ears and listen to Maroon 5 songs. Oh yeah!

9. Passport, ticket, money and UOB Card
I wont make it anywhere without those stuff.

What's yours?

Flea Market and Weekend!

Dear stranger,

Whats up?!

Last Thursday I went to my aunt's house for a little bit catching up it has been awhile, my uncle was in town for few days before he flew off to Hongkong. I met my younger cousin. He is doing his National Service, he is so funny and sweet as always, when I was there he told me that he had one plastic bag of oranges that he brought back from office, it was about 50 oranges and we made it into orange juices. We had talk about his national service in air force and what's next after that. It is kinda funny to see how they already a grown up now. I had dinner with my aunt and uncles - and then we ate durians. I was so full but tempted to eat more durians!

Oranges!

Friday - I laze around the house and read 1Q84 and in the evening I picked up my sister at airport, her flight delayed from Melbourne. She reached Singapore almost midnight and had to fly back to Palembang on the next morning. I slept about 3 am, finished my book. I felt sad really, it is kinda hard to let go something you have attached to for the past week. I like the characters in the book, they are like my friends and I hate to find another good book to read - to make me feel belong somewhere and attached to it. I woke up at 6 am get ready to airport. We met my uncle and aunt who coincidently flying off the same date about the same hour. After that I had breakfast with the girls who also flying on the same flight with my sister and another is flying to Bali. Seems like everyone is going for holidays. We had breakfast at KFC and then I went home preparing for flea market.

Have you done a flea market before? On Saturday, me, my roomate - Mori and Desiree did the flea market at Queenstown shopping centre. Most of the time I will go flea market as the buyer but this time we tried to sell our pre loved clothing - bags - accessories. It is not an easy job really, I was knackered after the whole day event. The weather is sunny, it is good of course I dont want it to be rain because no one will go out and shop on raining day. I reached the place at 11 am and balloting for the booth. Me and Mori set up all the things we brought and Desiree joined us in the afternoon, the flea market starts at 1pm while we set up our stuff, there were two ladies approaching our booth and bought off $75 dollars worth of stuff. It is not bad for the starting and I was hoping that more people coming to buy from our booth. After 1pm not much crowds came to our booth maybe because of the weather was extremely hot. I could feel my skins burnt. After the sun went down and the wind breeze, the crowds started to come around 5pm. It is quite competitive price that we offered with our neighbour's stall. They offered cloths 1 for $1, 2 for $3 while our price is more expensive.

I was thinking to do the Flea market again next time either at Queenstown on Sunday or Tanglin but there are a few things I have to consider. Flea market at Tanglin only happens every Saturday twice a month with ballot system - they only have about 20 lots per weekend and the rent is expensive, $85 per lot, and the selling price is cheap. I am not selling a lot of stuff so I don't think it is worth my time to sit down there and sell my cloths for $1 or $2. Queenstown is better because Sunday there are a lot of maids around who are having days off (according to the family who selling stuff next to our stall, they did it 4 times at Queenstown). Maybe not much people will buy our stuff but at least we can sell it bit more expensive because the rent is only $50 and we still can earn more. The next thing that I have to consider is, how to display the stuff. The place of the booth also playing the important thing. Well I hope the next one the luck is at our side.

Today I woke up quite late 11.30am - after 13 hours of sleeping and I feel knackered. Elis called me for lunch. I haven't met her for two weeks, she was back in Indonesia for long holidays. I took shower and made a move around 1 pm. I chose to walk to Lucky Plaza where we decided to have ayam penyet for lunch. I like to walk around when I have a lot of things on my mind. While walking to Lucky Plaza, my mind was wondering a lot of stuff. There were a lot of people on the street, couple, family, all sorts of people you could find. I saw a lady with tattoo walking in front of me, I was planning to make a tattoo soon, I examine carefully her tattoos on her right and left arms, the design was not nice and the colour has faded. It is kinda of dilemma to have and not to have a tattoo. I saw a mother who carrying the child on the back passed by in front of me and distract me about the tattoo. I always have question in mind when I see a little baby and mother- is it hard to be a mother and what kind of person the baby going to be when they have grown up?. I looked at the other side an extremely in love couple walking. I love to do people watch and wandering what kind of job are they doing, where are they possibly going that day, or if I saw a guy I am asking myself a question do gentlemen exists or is there anyone like Adam Levine out there. There are a lot of things in my mind and sometimes made me didn't notice what is happening around, I am literally drawn to my world. That's the reason why I love to be alone.

I met Elis at ayam penyet, she already there when I reached we had quick lunch and stroll around. We went to Orchard central and pass by Dean & Deluca! I am definitely will arrange a coffee or lunch here! After that we had coffee at Raindrop Cafe - Scape. The coffee was to sweet, I'd prefer Starbucks! We had talks about what is happening now and what is our plan ahead. I always know what I want and I am waiting for the right opportunity. I hope next year or soon is the right time but at the other side, there are a few things hard for me to let go. Sometimes it is not about the place but it is the people that make you feel want to stay, but for the long run, when the people are no longer here, what make you want to stay?

Now I am preparing for my trip tomorrow and getting ready to have pizza and watch movie at Nyuk's.I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Tuesday Stroll!

Dear strangers,

It was kinda hot and bright today. Few months ago when my cousin was in town, I remembered I saw one magazine at Intercontinental Hotel talking about the new refurbish shop houses at Tiong Bahru area, I kept that in mind and today I decided to check it out. The place is not that far from my house, a few bus stops away. I had to do a little bit of walking to this small street call Yong Saik Road. The road is short, about 300 m, surrounded by 5 storey old apartments. It doesnt take much of my time to stroll around there. The first cafe I notice was Potato, I took a little peek inside, the interior is nice, industrial theme with bricks wall - black frames - minimalist. It is newly open judging from the flowers and congratulations notes on the main entrance. Next to it there is a small cafe, fully packed, call 40 handscofee. I wanted to go in and try a cup of coffee somehow I didnt make a move to get in there, I don't really like crowded place. I looked at the shop opposite of the cafe, Books Actually, the independent book shop - the main highlight of the magazine I read at the hotel. The shop is not that small filled with books from vintage books to the new releases. The price is far too expensive comparing to Kinokuniya. I really had no idea why they put the price so high, if they sell vintage and maybe a few rare books I can accept that but those books are common books that I can get it everywhere else and cheaper. I didnt spent too much time there after I checked the back of the house which filled with a lot of vintage table ware and some history books I left.

I walked down to the main street and looked at the time, it still 4pm. After considering a few possible places to go I took bus to Chinatown. I was thinking to go to Ann Siang Road, had a cup of coffee and read my book but my feet brought me to different place. I get off from the bus and walked to different direction from my destination. I made a call on the way and viola I ended up going to Keong Saik Rd - where the French restaurant is. When I reached there, Alex was in front of the door. I am so glad to see him, it was quite sometimes from the last time I saw him. I had a little chat with him before he left for his hair cut. I spent a couple hours there chat with Manuel and helping him with the teas. There are soooo many teas there and really made me confuse before I made a move, Manuel gave me a few tea bags from France to try at home. I chose my fave Earl Grey and some weird tea. Meri beacoup! x

It almost 6 when I left the restaurant, leave them to prepare for their dinner service at 7pm. I completely forgot about Ann Siang Road and walked towards Duxton Hill. I passed by the small dodgy road Desiree showed me the other day and made my to Tanjong Pagar to take bus home. I did some of my groceries before I head home. Deciding to eat in or out. I had a little bit food at home and I went out for dinner with Nyuk at Botak Jones, finally after few weeks I havent seen him :D. After had chat I went to Fair Price finest to get Sunkist drinks that I have been craving for the past few days.

Sometimes you really miss those friends who can just accept you the way you are and don't think too much.

Happy Monday

Dear strangers,

I enjoyed my Sunday very much, slept the whole day, read three chapter of the new trilogy, this book doesnt have a strong spell on me but it thrilled me when I read chapter two. Will continue to read later. I had beers and stayed at home in the evening watched some TV about weddings. It is kinda annoyed me to found out that someone drank another bottle of the beer. The beers has been lying on the living room for days, I put it in the fridge for me to drink and suddenly I found out someone took one and drank it, moreover that someone got drunk. It is pretty ridiculous, the beer only contains 4% alcohol and taste light as water.

How was your Monday?

I woke up pretty late about 2pm, found my self hungry like hell, made something for lunch and laze around at home. I skype-d with Fang, I miss her, it has been two years since the last time I saw her. She told me she is coming to Thailand, perhaps I will see her there. Around 5pm Desiree asked me to watch a movie at Bugis + (previously called Iluma), we watch A Few Best Men, a British - Australian comedy. I didnt expect much from the movie but this movie is super entertaining and funny, I laugh from the start till the end. Good show. Before went for the movie, I picked some books from library, all the lonely planet book, just getting ready for upcoming trips. Will let you know the details later. I can't wait to do the planning tomorrow!!!After movie I met up with the girls and did some groceries. Finally the fridge is full again but there are a few things I haven't bought yet, maybe tomorrow.

A little bit part of me missing Mr Grey, wish there are someone out there like him but not boring like him. Hmm.. so where are you my Mr Grey?

Laters! I am going to continue read 1Q84.

You are What You Eat

Dear strangers,

I remember the last time I met my uncle who loves to read, he reads books from biology to chemistry from religion to nutrition, he kept repeating everyday this phrase 'You are What You Eat'. It always planted in mind ever since. It is very true, if you eat nutritious food your skin, hair and your body will be different. Since I am not in the uni anymore, I didnt really pay attention with what I consume, especially if you have to eat out every day during lunch or dinner. I don't really have time to cook after work and on the weekend I am dying to do other things because my life has been stuck at office from Monday to Friday.

So on my break now - the break that I always enjoy and cherish every minute of it. I was thinking to back to my dietary programme, to eat nutritious healthy food and I hope that I will continue this habits after I am back again to working life. The nutrition that I need is comes from carrots and papaya (vit A), banana (Vit C), milk (I have a very low lactose tolerance, I try to have milk with my cereal), eggs (try to eat it no more than two eggs per week), soy product (my fave soya milk, tempe and toufu) dark green leaves vegetables, poultry and meat. I just make the list short, try to find the best fruits/vegetables that have everything in it - easy to consume and doesnt take long time to prepare.

The last time I checked my skin was orage-ish yellow because I ate too much carrot with hummus. Carrot is rich with Vit A which is good for eyes and also scalp, yes I am having hair problem. Zinc is good for hair too. So I am trying to reduce the hair loss from my head. Other benefits are your skin will glowing radiant, definitely you will look younger than your age (I am the living prove!)

Although I look underweight but I am healthy and have enough nutrition for my body. So who cares about what other think being anorexic, they are just jealous.

So hope you all start to make a list of things that easy to consume but providing everything you need.

Girls Talk at Starbucks

Dear stranger,

After I spent 24 hours on the bed with Mr Grey, I decided to breathe some fresh hair, so I went out for dinner and had some girls time at Starbucks. This topic has been repeatedly discussed over and over again about the 'attached' groups trying to match someone for the 'single ladies'. I mean admit it, not being so harsh or try to offends anyone, but there is no eligible bachelor around (not for me or others to be frank). It is kinda weird when someone asked you what kind of partner you want and you answered it 'I dont know'. No one knows for sure what God has chose for you the other half but still you can make an endless list about things you hoped for. I asked myself, I don't have any preference as well but I do know what I want from my partner - at least a few things I think guy should have, not from the material point  it is more to values, principal, personality and character. I am not that shallow, you know. Unconsciously, maybe I built some standard for the guy I wish to establish my future relationship with, after the failed relationship - I had learned. I set my benchmark quite high now. I don't date anyone but I still welcoming people as friend.

I am kinda bored with the topic tho. I left to made a phone call to wish my dear friend Happy Birthday and caught myself giggling and laughing over the jokes he threw at me. I miss him, I miss how we used to laugh over the same things and all the jokes we had. When I was back at the lounge seat again, we left that boring topic behind and let's talk about the newlywed, maybe it is kinda taboo or very embarrassing to open up and discuss about sex matters with your friends - girls or guys, uhmm it is just an Asian thingy, sometimes being open and feel less uncomfortable towards those taboo topic makes your life much more easier, in a sense things are easier when you have somewhat Western lifestyle where everything is more open and straight forward. We talking about it awkwardly in public, Starbucks is a public place maybe no one hears us but some of our words might be caught by some ears, who cares any way. I enjoy the girls companion but quite shocked with their thoughts about sex and relationship. Something about Asian culture, they never agreed for a couple to live together before marriage, after the marriage they found 101 things that they didnt know about the partners. It has a good and bad point to be fair, good point is: you know you are making a right decision and aware of some unexceptional behaviour of your partner - trying to digest and adapting to it. bad point it: if you have been together for few years, you had big arguments or maybe explode and your partner can't take it, that is the end of it, because there is no stronger bound of marriage to anchor the relationship.

Inside my heart I whispered, I think those girls need to read Fifty Shades of Grey. Mr Grey will teach them everything he knows.

Talking about those stuff made my mind wandering bit to far. Being brought up by different people at different places have shaped me and let me have advantage of having a little mixture of everything, with all my background I have developed some kind of disorder, I am not sure in good or bad way but my adolescent time is not normal like most of girls, it sculptured what I am now and I am more aware and open to a lot of things. Things I can accept or if I can't I will chose to leave it.

There are good points about Western lifestyle where you are more independent, open minded and straight forward. The relationship between family is not that as complicated as Asian people - which most of the time I like the Western thinking. I like the idea of we are individual that have life and have choice, our parents don't own us and we do not owe anyone or born to please anyone. Also, they appreciate human as a human, as someone that need life, privacy and time off from work. Not like in Asia where all the people are working like slave and yet never been appreciated.

We are a grown up adult, we filter every new information, keep in mind what we think is right and ignore what we think doesn't suit our principal, we dont just yes to everything. Everyone has their own values and principals, it defines someone in everything they do - work, family, friends, relationship and it also effecting the next generation - how are you going to bring up your kids. So if you are not ready to be a parents and guide your kids with the right value and principal, so don't be a parents or you will an irresponsible arse who produce a lot of irresponsible kids in future.

I mean it.

Lunch Out!

Dear strangers,

I am still waiting for the interview results, my gosh, the feeling of nervous and curious mix into one and I can't sleep well at nights made everything perfect. Out of sudden there are not many vacancies on the net, I need to look and apply more tomorrow. Somehow I wish I was in States enjoying my time with my friends rather than do nothing here - job hunting sometimes makes me bit depressed.

I went for lunch on Tuesday with Rachel and uncle Low at Red Mills - Valley Point. It used to be my fave sandwich shop, they just recently increased the price and the quality of the sandwich is not as tasty as before. I quite disappointed with the Grilled Chicken sandwich I had. We had a little bit catch up over the lunch and Rachel brought me all my mails that I sent to my ex company. I got a few copies of NatGeo and NatGeoTraveler, it made me happy. Somehow I miss the old time when we were at Delta House.

Today, I explored another side of Duxton, had lunch with Desiree at The Wok and Barrel. It is located at Duxton hills, one of the shop houses. The interior of the place is not as nice as the Selfish Gene Cafe. They have a lot of unique beers that I never seen anywhere else. Desiree told me, every weekdays 5-7 pm happy hour and they serve pizza for SGD 5.9. We had the lunch menu, mostly were nasi lemak combo (price range from 7-10 dollars). I chose nasi lemak with pork fillet. The nasi lemak has similar taste with Indonesian's nasi uduk, which I like it. The food was OK not that funtastic. After that we stroll around. I love the Duxton neighbour hood where all the colourful shop houses located, it brought back all the ancient feelings. We went to get fruit juice at Amoy St Food Court, I think the stall was one of the famous one with long queue, they sells a few combos of fruit juice, I tried Papaya Pineapple and Milk. I love the taste! Desiree bought the Carrot - Pear - Apple - Mango the taste not bad. The fruit juice worth the queue and the price, 2 dollars for all the combo fruits juice.

Oh, I never posted before about the Selfish Gene Cafe, upps! Ok couple weeks ago, I had another lunch with Desiree at Selfish Gene Cafe - Craig Rd. The interior was nice, it has the industrial feeling. The cafe serves sandwich, when I went there the Pork sandwich with green apple was sold out. Pork and green apple are the best combo! I love it, too bad I didn't have chance to try it maybe next time, so I tried their best selling sandwich which is beef sandwich. It was yummy with mustard and rockets leaves. Over all the food is OK for the price range from 10-12 dollars.

I spent the rest of afternoon at home sleeping and now I don't know what to do. Any ideas?

Twins

Dear strangers,

Is there any identical twins around you? I have twins friend from primary school whom I met up occasionally on the weekend. They are identical twins but I can tell who is who. Twins, they look alike but not alike, an article from National Geographic January 2012 issue. There are a lot of interesting stories about twins, identical or fraternal twins. Every first weekend in August, thousands of twins comes to Twinsburg, Ohio to celebrate three days - Twins days festival. Maybe sometimes it is hard to identified one to another, even they are virtually share the same genetic code.

There is one case that pretty interesting called 'Jim Twins', both born in Ohio in 1939, adopted by different couples, both named Jim, Jim Springer and Jim Lewis, they were separated from birth and reconnected at the age of 39 in 1979. When they reconnected they found out a string of coincidence and similarities, both of them about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. They had dog named Toy. When they were young they married women name Linda and divorce them, their second wife both name Betty. They have son both name James Allan. They'd both served party time sheriffs, smoke Salem cigarette and drank Miller Lite Beer. They had same smile and indistinguishable voice. It is amazed me how they reconnected and have a lot of similarities even tho they were apart.

There is another case in Canada when a couple from Ontario adopted a baby girl from orphanage, in 2000, they took holidays to China and saw a girl look like their daughters and found out that that little girl is the other long lost twin who is staying in Toronto. Wow, imagine it took both of them half the world away to reconnected and found out that they actually have another half. I am wondering if it could happened to me?

Well, I just want to share what I think is interesting from what I read. I will select some other interesting topic. I just loaded with NatGeo and NatGeoTraveler magazine! What a happy little girl I am :D

Monday - Cleaning

Dear strangers,

It is Monday, still remember the past month how I had been dragging myself from bed to shower and walking slowly to the bus stop hoping that the bus or MRT will have another breakdown so I will reach office very late. Monday was nightmares for me. Enough complaining about those days which have already over!!!

So today I decided to spend the whole day at home, cleaning my stuff, un packed my arts supplies - perhaps I am going to pain again tomorrow if the weather still dull and not allowed me soaking under the sun to snaps more pictures, cooked my lunch, did some laundry, changed my bed sheets and then flipping through Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations book. I never intend to read his book till it finish, I don't like 'THE END' feeling - like there are no more materials for me to read. I am not a bookworm but when I like an author or a book I will take my time to read it slowly afraid that I will never find any books as fun as it. I flipped the pages and saw one chapter of the book about BEIRUT, I read between the lines. Few days ago I was thinking I want to visit Beirut one day, but after I read the chapter I am not sure if it is safe to visit the place.

I spent the whole afternoon stroll on the net, talking to ex colleagues. Life is weird somehow, you met a lot of people in your life but only a few have the chemistry. I met one of my ex colleague at Somerset on Sunday after I met another ex colleague for dinner. It was kinda random, Lyn asked me to have dinner and catch up, we met at cineleisure. I had a good time with her, a lot of people after you left the company will say that 'keep in touch' or 'let's hang out sometimes' but in the reality none of them will show up when you asked them to go out, surprisingly Lyn just showed up and had a little bit chit chat with me and shopping around for a bit. On the way home, I met uncle Low, whom I know from my very first company, he was with his wife, we just had a little bit chat and I left. And tomorrow I am going to meet Rachel. So this week a lot of catch up to do huh?

No Reservations - and planning for another holidays!

Random Internet Stroll

Dear strangers,

It is Friday, the day where all the working people have been waiting for. I know that feeling, woke up on Monday - having Monday blues, and the next four days doing same shyte till weekend. Life is dull and boring at times, for someone like me cycle of routines are the most boring thing in the world. Although its Friday (everyday is Sunday to me since I am no longer working at the moment), the sky pretty dull and I just cancelled my meni-pedi appointment, just because I feel that I want to be at home and enjoying this dull weather with a cup of tea, stroll on the internet and find interesting things to buy or plan for next holiday.

So, I found this eyewear for kids 'Very French Gangsters', it is super cool! I love the advertisement - mug shoots and of course the little kids with attitude who posed with the cool shades. (images taken from the website)

Dreams High and Higher

Dear strangers,

I know it's random. It's Thursday, almost weekend but honestly there is nothing difference for me now weekend or weekdays, everyday is Sunday to me! Later I have another job interview at 11am. I still hoping that I will get accepted to the two places I want. Finger crossed.

I have been pinterest-ing for the past two days, finding ideas about things, place, food, any pictures that interest me. Come across in mind, I want to have party - a garden party or a tea party. I always wanted to host one, with all the lights hanging in the garden, cupcakes, teas, cute pastries, nice napkins, wooden chairs, flowers, guests with dress code, vintage pictures. I want to make the invitation, put up the decors and of course invite my favourite people in the world to the party. Perhaps I should do it for my birthday. Other than garden party I want to do picnic at the park, which I found it so British. I love it when I was in England we had picnic in the park in the summer, although the sky mostly dull and the cold breeze wind but I love the feeling.

I love the light bulbs and the idea of using it as vase.

The garden party, love the hanging lantern, the table settings and the wooden chairs!

The bulbs are my fave!

It is not a party when it never comes with pastries and cakes!

Another random thing on our girl's talk tonight is about where is the places you think is romantic for a date. For me, planetarium is one of the romantic place, I imagine the Planetarium at York, it is one of my fave place when I was in UK too bad I didnt have chance to see the stars while I visited York. I always have interest in star gazing and planetarium, I think it is one of the romantic place for a date.

Other than that is concert or Coachella festival, I love to watch concert, especially the out doors concert!

Beach is another place that I think is nice but too normal. Having a beach party or dinner by the beach it would be nice too.

Well sometimes it is nice to have a roomate and having some random girl's talk.

Concert, where people having fun and enjoy the music.

Beach!

I hope one day that I will held my own garden party and tea party and go to those places with the loved one. Backpacking from Portugal to Turkey, hiking to Nepal, seeing the ancient culture of Inca in Peru, relaxing at the beach in Fiji Island or Hawaii, going to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and of course New York! I am a dreamers, I dream about things I want to achieve and working towards it, slowly or later I will be there!
